Shortlisted for an Art Prize

For the past 10 months I’ve been working on a new body of work: cutouts.

I redraw a section of an installation, a silhouette of grouped brush strokes, or the shape of the vinyl from a previous work. This provides the shape for an aluminium panel to be cut. Then I can react to the non-rectangular shape with my brush strokes.

One of the works I made using this process, called A Cutout Orange, was shortlisted for the fourth annual Emerging Artist Award 2018 presented by fortyfivedownstairs and Future Leaders. This piece and all other shortlisted artists were included in a group show from 19 to 30 June.

The winners announced on the opening night were Katie Eraser with her work Simple upside down spectator, 2018, acrylic, oil stick and pencil on canvas, 1020 x 1020mm, and Ayman Kaake with the work Exulansis, 2018, viewmaster, 200 x 120 x 120mm.

Check out the work and a few snaps from the opening night below.
